Tickets for the opera "Kholstomer"

Act I

On the field sports a herd of young horses. Among them — old piebald gelding named Strider. Youth mocks his pathetic old age. In response, Strider tells them the story of his life.

He was born at the famous stud farm of General and pedigree was not the horse better than him. Strider was good: strong and hardworking, and nickname got in a sweeping and spirited move, has not been equal in Russia. But he was born a skewbald for this peinu became an outcast. When Strider grew up and fell in love with a Young filly, it had ruthlessly korosteli, making the gelding.

Once on a visit to the General was his friend the Prince of Serpukhov. The host showed their horses. The groom Taras just for fun asked to experience the race and the Strider. Piebald gelding bypassed the best stallion named Swan. The General wanted to get rid of Taras, but the Prince gladly bought the Strider along with the groom.

Act II

The years spent at the Prince of Serpukhov — handsome, in love with themselves and worldly pleasures, was the best in the life of the Strider. He was proud of the love of the Prince, appreciated the care of Taras, but could not understand how one living being can belong to another? Why do people love to say "mine", and seek more things to call "their"?

Almost every day they went to Mathieu, the mistress of Serpukhov. But one day on Shrove Tuesday, when the Prince was celebrating the victory of Strider at the races, she ran away with a young Ulan. Serpukhov gave chase and twenty-five miles without rest drove a horse until I caught a cheater. Hunted gelding has lost its power. Weakened, he no longer needed a Prince. For several years he was sold from hand to hand, until, sick and stunted, he inadvertantly found myself back to the General.

Here again comes the aged and bloated Prince of Serpukhov. General, as before, brags about her stud, and they both recall their happy past. Unexpectedly high sees piebald gelding, but in a sick old horse did not recognize his faithful friend.

The groom informs the General that Strider is sick and with the scab, and he tells him to kill. Comes Drach*: this is Taras. Unlike the Prince, he learned the Strider and wistfully laments his miserable, no ruined life. Ironically, it was he who so loved Pegasi and cared for him, became his executioner.
